In 1874, Eduard Steinkopff, a German who had immigrated to London, acquired the rights to export mineral water to several countries; four years later he took over all exports.
In 1875, six million clay jugs were shipped to England. There Apollinaris was praised as being “clear as crystal, soft as velvet, sparkling as champagne.”
